VISION
The vision of the Freetown Media Centre is to contribute to the advancement of creative arts and digital media in Sierra Leone and the world at large and to continue to lead in the promotion of storytelling and self-expression.
MISSION
Our mission is to promote freedom of expression through the development of the creative industries using community engagement, education, and capacity-building programs. Our goal is to ensure that Sierra Leone in particular and Africa generally takes its rightful position on the world stage of creative entrepreneurship and digital media production.
HISTORY
In 2009 we opened the doors to the WeOwnTV Freetown Media Centre together with American Filmmaker Banker White. Today, more than a decade later, the Media Center has grown into a vibrant professional collective that houses some of the most respected and sought-after media-makers in the subregion. Our African own, and African lead center is managed by Sierra Leonean media makers Arthur V. A. Pratt and Lansana ‘Barmmy Boy’ Mansaray. Through our work, we also support other filmmakers, musicians, artists, and journalists through media education, mentorship, and promotion.
Through our continued partnership with WeOwnTV, we have been able to launch “The WeOwnTV Filmmaker Fellowship”, a regional film fund and professional development program supporting the production of independent documentaries directed by Guinean, Sierra Leonean, and Liberian filmmakers.
